Zamboanga, dubbed as Asia’s Latin City truly has more reasons to celebrate.
Amid various travel advisories to exclude Mindanao in the must-see in the Philippines, a surprising boost in tourism and trade was realized as two cruise ship with Bahamas registry docked at the Port of Zamboanga in March 05 of this year.
M/V Astor, the second of the two visiting luxury ships, features highly sophisticated amenities such as two (2) restaurants, five (5) bars, and three (3) elevators, along with other R&R features like indoor & outdoor swimming pools, sauna, beauty salon, fitness centre and play room, among others on-board.
The 176.50-metre ship encompassed even the area of the recently constructed New Quay, its intimidating size symbolizing big things to come in the Port of Zamboanga. It had four hundred and thirty-seven (437) passengers of varied ethnicities desiring to have hands-on experience of the sights and sounds of the Philippine southern city.
Acting Port Manager Leonilo Miole presented tokens for the ship captain and crew, forging an economic alliance for the Port and the whole City by giving a warm welcome and a red carpet treatment of vessel personnel and tourists.
Said cruise ship, however, is no stranger to Zamboanga which is also known as The City of Flowers, having visited here in 1996.
M/S Albatross, a true first timer in Zamboanga Port arrived earlier on February 09. Also with a Bahamas/Caribbean registry, the ship had on board four hundred and sixty five (465) tourists of various nationalities.

The first cruise ship to call at the Zamboanga Port in around ten years, the City Government and Department of Tourism with APM Miole made sure that the foreign visitors are well accommodated and secure.
PMO-Zamboanga likewise co-hosted a grand welcome programme along with the city Mayor turning over a ceremonial key of the city to the vessel captain.
